FAQ

How much does the school cost?

$6000.00 plus $150.00 book fee

How long is the course?

Roughly 6 months. It is a 540 hour program which includes 40 outside hours massaging friends and family. Class meets Monday – Thursday for 5 hours per day. This comes to 25 course weeks (not counting holidays etc.)

How much outside time is expected?

The main outside requirement is for the student to complete 40 hours of outside massage using friends and relatives etc. (these are free massages with no tipping per SC State Law)

What classes are involved in the coursework?

For about half the course there are two classes: Massage Therapy and Anatomy and Physiology. These meet two days each week for five hours. About half way through the course these classes will meet only one day a week and the other two days will be spent in Clinics where the students massage the general public.

How can missed hours be made up?

State Law requires that all hours be with an instructor or LMT. Generally, hours can be made up by attending another class. Occasionally, the school attends massage events in the community on non-school days and these can be used as make up hours. Absences are strongly discouraged due to the volume of course work covered in each class. As a last resort students can continue taking classes past their graduation date in order to complete their 500 hours.

Is there any financial assistance?

At this time there are no loans or grants offered by the school. A payment plan can be set up. This plan can extend beyond the six months however, transcripts will be held until the agreement has been satisfied. All payment plans must be strictly adhered to or dismissal and or fine will be rendered. If payments are more than 5 days late then a $50.00 late fee will be added to the balance. Transcripts will not be released until all money is paid

What level of instruction can be expected?

All coursework is at a college level. Ample time outside of class will be needed to study and prepare for this profession. A grade of no lower than 70% must be maintained in both Massage Therapy and Anatomy and Physiology.

When all the coursework and hours have been completed will I be a massage therapist?

Carolina School of Massage offers the 500 hours required by most States as well as preparation for a career in Massage therapy. However, in order to become a Licensed Massage therapist (LMT) you must pass the State exam – MBLEX. Carolina School of massage does not administer this exam. The students sign up on line and can take it in Greenville. To become a LMT you must successfully pass your 500 hour program and pass the MBLEX test.
